Thursday, May 10 at the new spot adjacent to The New Parrish in OAK called The Rocksteady, with my medulla oblongata, Be Brown. We have not played together since Feb of 2010 at The People but we’ve stayed in touch and on the same page with music even though I’ve moved to one of his old stomping grounds, BKNY.

I’ll drive up to Sonoma to do a Gala for the California AMGEN bike tour.

Then I get to rock the Tropical diaspora with the homie, Wonway over at Makossa on Saturday, May 12 at John Collins. It’s a long story, involving egg throwing and the Police but we are overdue at rocking a Makossa together. It will be delightful!

Parlour Magazine hit me up for Soultronica Volume 2 and an interview after the release of Vol.1 with Okayplayer. Folks know I release less than a handful of mixes a year. However, when I was making the first one, I knew it would be a series. I’ve been gathering music at this intersection of soul+sexy+electronic music for a long time. I had plenty of music that didn’t make it in the first volume and some new cuts that just got released right after Vol.1.

I really like how this series a mixture of brand new sounds (Miguel, Azealia, Sweater Beats, Idle Warship, Bamboos) complimented by forgotten, or possibly missed tracks. Like who knew that SBTRKT produced under Aaron Jerome first and did a remix of Little Dragon? I was reminded to include some tracks like that when I played the remix of “Hold On” by Dwele here in NY recently, and a bunch of folks ran up asking me about Kanye’s verse that they had never heard (which is one of my favorites, thematically built around names of magazines). Vol. 2 moves from slow-burner to mid-pace. I had to sneak in some of my favorite moombahsoul jems at the end. Note: careful with the volume at work. Mar’s amazing cover/variation of Lil’ Waynes’ “Single” is completely un-edited

Miguel? Electric Wire Hustle? The Stepkids? Morri$? Alice Russell? B.Lewis? Pharoahe Monch? Yes! I’m in there, laying down sexy hawt soul sh*te with the best of ‘em!!!

I was drooling on this line up and then 24hrs later I was djing with them. lovelife

Coming UP! Saturday, March 17th

It puts a smile on my face every time I think about silent discos. I still have to explain to people what they are. [djs transmitting to a wireless-headphoned audience, no out-loud music at all, not even a monitor for us.]

And then I have to explain the MAGIC of silent discos. There is this psychological switch that flips in us when we put on headphones. Call it a buffer, a bubble, a forcefield, private mental-space.. whichever you want. All I know is that people free up at silent discos with headphones on. And oddly enough, they connect with other dancers on the dancefloor. It’s some sort of automatic inhibitor destroyer. It’s awesome. Oh, it’s also a clever loophole on gathering to dance in public without sound amplification permits. We know by now, I love this sort of mischief. By MoPo’s description of his silent disco, I’m honored and excited to get in on the fun & magic.

“Unlike the majority of SXSW events, the Silent Southby is NOT sponsor driven or a big budget operation. It’s a BYOB space and a decidedly PURE MUSIC EXPERIENCE. The Dj’s who performed for us last year said, without exception, that this was the favorite event that they played during SXSW.

Austin Enchanted Forest is an arts community, populated by large-scale production artists. For Silent Southby 2011, they built the DJ booth out of deadwood under a huge oak tree.
